One of the real conflict that related with discrimination, violence and exclusion that still happen until now is anti Asian conflict.
Ever since it came to light that the COVID-19 virus originated in Wuhan, China, incidents of hate against Asians in America have been steadily on the rise. According to a study by the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University, San Bernardino, there has been an increase of 150 percent in hate crimes against Asians in the US in 2020 and it is more than double of 2019. These include attacks on people of Asian origin as well as the businesses run by them. The study found that two of the cities, where Asians have been targeted the most are Los Angeles and New York.
1. Effects of the Asian hate to the individuals:
- Some of the Asians are verbally and physically assaulted. The worst is they did that to the Asians without knowing their age and gender.
- It is found that victims of hate crimes are more likely to experience symptoms of psychological distress than victims of non-hate crimes.
- East Asians have been publicly outcast from society, or "othered," in the wake of references to "the Chinese virus" by President Trump in tweets in March 2020.
- Asian individuals are subject to increased mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, and the severe psychological effects that victims of hate crimes often develop.
A few days after Echano, a 70-year-old Filipino-American, says a man
verbally and physically assaulted him during a walk at a Cerritos park,
the throbbing pain still lingers, and he's afraid to go outside.
- Oppression Sustaining happened as the President Trump started to speak out about the COVID-19 which is referred as "the Chinese Virus" tweeted on his twitter official account, the oppression and hates towards Asian increase aggressively such as labelling China as a "diseased" and "dirty"
- The Asian community started to form solidarity to fight for its right with the movement of Black Lives Matter to fight against racism such as the white supremacy and xenophobia.
- The issue of Asian hatred began to attract the attention of the media asking the community to stop that hatred and start living together in a tolerant society. Yet, there are still a small number of people who support this racist movement against Asian hatred.
- The society of Asian peoples began to be excluded from others and some of them get discriminated everywhere especially at schools and workplace.
3. Effect of the Asian hate to the country:
- Some of the big business company that being racist to the Asian would not invest on the Asian country such as China.
- China will get a huge loss on the economical aspect because a lot of big company from other country that have the business relation will stop dealing to take the stocks at China when some of them supporting the Asian hate solidarity and believes that the virus coming from the Asians.
